alias Matthew Ker
MaJiKer, alias Matthew Ker, is an English producer, performer, songwriter and remixer, based in Paris and working internationally.
He has enjoyed successful collaborations with numerous artists from diverse cultures and genres, as well as creating his own projects.
With French vocalist Camille he produced two critically acclaimed hit albums, served as musical director and performer on her international concert tours, and won numerous awards including a BBC Radio 3 World Music Award, Victoires de la Musique, and the French Mercury Music Prize, Le Prix Constantin.
He first pursued his interest in contemporary pop, electronic composition, world music and cross-disciplinary performance whilst studying for a degree in Contemporary Music at Dartington College of Arts.
On the two solo albums MaJiKer has released, "Body-Piano-Machine" in 2009 explored the possibilities for body percussion and his unique take on human beatbox, and "The House of Bones" in 2011 was inspired by ghost stories, Scandinavian mythology and folk music. Both of these projects were accompanied by visually rich, theatrical stage-shows which he performed at many international venues and festivals.
MaJiKer collaborated with Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurðsson on the debut album from Italian singer-songwriter Erica Mou (Critics Choice and Press Award at Sanremo Song Festival 2012) and subsequently toured internationally with her.
His current projects include new project NORTH, a collection of Nordic folk melodies featuring an eclectic selection of guest vocalists, a major new live collaboration with juice vocal ensemble and writing & producing for Tunisian vocalist Amina Annabi.
Recent work includes collaborations with Gaggle, Ben Frost and Sam Lee, and contributions to projects from Nitin Sawhney, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim.
MaJiKer's remix work has encompassed artists as diverse as Fever Ray, Ane Brun, Nicolette and Temposhark, a Nico Muhly song suite and a Gabriel Prokofiev-composed piece by cellist Peter Gregson.
