ABOUT ME

I’m MaJiKer, a songwriter, vocal producer and creative coach from the UK.

Born and raised in Birmingham, I studied Contemporary Music at Dartington College of Arts where I specialised in electro-pop, experimental sound design, Balinese Gamelan and vocal harmony from around the world.

I was based in Paris for 13 years, working across Europe with an eclectic range of artists in the studio and on stage and fulfilling many of my dreams: world tours, music awards, platinum-selling albums and performances on Later… with Jools Holland and (a weird French version of) Top Of The Pops.

I returned to the UK in 2018 and am now based in leafy South East London, where I enjoy collaborating with artists on their material, supporting emerging and established talent, developing my own musical projects and creating bespoke work for specific briefs.

I love languages and speak fluent French, basic Swedish, and I’ve recently started learning Irish.

I also have an allotment where I grow 12 varieties of mint, a hodgepodge of tomatoes and an uncontrollable sage bush.

FAQ

Why ‘Song Doctor‘ and not co-writer?

My role is to help you find clarity on your work, solutions for issues within songs and to stimulate creativity by bringing new perspectives and fresh ideas.

I am also a songwriter and often co-write with others. However, in Song Doctor sessions I never take a cut of the publishing as any suggestions I may offer are for you to consider independently as you finish your song(s).

Who can work with me?

Anyone can work with me, from aspiring writers starting their journey into songwriting to established artists looking for support when developing a new project or facing creative challenges.

I also work with educational institutions, arts organisations and broadcasters on projects and events.

How much is a session?

I have different pricing options available, including a discount for independent and unsigned writers (available for a limited time). I also run group sessions for those who would like to share and connect with others.

You can download the current price list here.

I offer a free 20 minute consultation on Zoom or by phone to discuss your work and how I could help. You’ll get a clear picture of how I work and there’s no obligation to proceed, so do get in touch.

What if I’m nervous sharing my song ideas and receiving feedback?

It’s perfectly natural to feel nervous, especially when sharing songs ideas for the first time with someone new.

My approach is supportive, warm and uplifting. Our sessions are a safe space where your creativity will be nurtured and your ideas will be welcomed with respect and enthusiasm.

Can you help me with my career?

I can help with the creative side of your work such as sculpting a coherent and compelling body of work, identifying songs that you may want to develop further and helping you to make the best artistic decisions for yourself.

However, our sessions will not focus on marketing your work, optimising your social media profile, networking or financial goal setting, although I can support you in finding the right people to work with on these areas.

Est-ce que je dois parler bien anglais?

Je parle couramment français et je travaille également avec des auteurs-compositeurs francophones, alors n'hésitez pas à me contacter en français.
